Up and down, up and down. Let us lead you up and down with the GVSF's modern production of one of Shakespeare's most beloved and unique comedies: A Midsummer Night's Dream.
In this production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, we see two worlds collide; one of wealth and privilege and another full of powerful, natural magic. While the concept was inspired by envirnomental and social justice, our version fully embraces the raucous comedy in this play. This 90 minute romp is packed full of action, romance, music, magic and even puppets!
Once again, our company is proud to be represented by predominantly queer cast and crew and it is our great privilege to be able to showcase the work of this talented and vibrant community.
Four young lovers, a community theatre troupe, and a group of warring fairies... by the end we think you'll agree, Lord, what fools these mortals be!

About the director
Karin Saari is a Quw’utsun (Cowichan Valley) based theatre director. They began their theatre career as an actor and have worked and studied in Vancouver, London, New York, Toronto, St. John’s, Victoria, Edinburgh, and Edmonton. Karin is committed to building creative spaces that prioritize safety, equity and transparency; believing that entertaining, provocative and empowering art can be achieved through generosity, collaboration, and kindness.
Karin is incredibly grateful to be working with GVSF for the second time and thankful to have been given so much creative freedom and support.
ABOUT THE ASSIST. DIRECTOR:
Gabriela Mattos is a Brazilian/Canadian artist, recently relocated to Vancouver, and she is so excited to be returning to the GVSF to assistant direct this year's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream.
Although Gabi currently acts, directs and plays in Vancouver, she is also one of the creative directors for Alectoria Productions, a Victoria based immersive theatre company. There, she does graphic design, directing, and overall any andcraft making!
As a passionate Shakespeare lover, she moves hills and valleys to spend time with such rich text, but for the GVSF and a chance to work with Karin Saari and her generous talented friends she will move mountains.
